meet aarti. one of my cool, glamorous and spicy senior representatives for 2016!
i was so excited to get her submission for the 2016 school year…especially after reading about her goals.
aarti met me at the park on one of the HOTTEST alabama days. she came ready to work it!
i spent the entire session swatting at mosquitoes the size of pigeons {no lie, it’s alabama}…and wiping my forehead. we trekked a good two miles throughout our entire session. across pebbles, mulch, uneven bridge boards, and tree roots. up hills, down hills, into abandoned cabins and over rickety bridges. i stumbled multiple times in my boring brown flats. but this girl…no….she did it all in 4 inch wedges! did she look like it was 100+ degrees with 100% humidity?! ummmm….no! she is so graceful and elegant in everything that she does. even when i first met her…she literally floated over to me and greeted me with that 1000 watt smile!
i am in awe of this girl…to say the least!
and now, a little message from aarti 🙂

My name is Aarti Joshi, and I will be a James Clemens High School graduate of 2016. I have been an active member of my school’s National Beta Club -which is a club designed to encourage student volunteer work for our community-for the past two years. This club inspired me to complete service hours; therefore, I decided to get involved with HIA (Huntsville India Association). My parents were both from India, so getting involved in a community organization that was aimed towards my ethnic heritage seemed like a great idea! I assist in organizing cultural events for the Indian Community, like Diwali-the festival of lights, and Holi-the festival of colors. Additionally, I volunteer to advertise these events for the community by broadcasting announcements for them on the Madison radio. I perceive HIA as the perfect way to embrace my culture, and to help those-who have left their birth country- enjoy the same festivals and traditions they had back at home. I’m also Vice President of my school’s Spanish club, a member of the Environment club, and also a member of Interact Club. Furthermore, I was a competitive dancer at Southern Sensations Dance Studio for 4 years and performed a variety of: jazz and hip hop routines. I have danced a total of 8 years, besides jazz and hip hop this has included ballet and Bharatanatyam (a classical type of Indian dance). I decided to take a break from dance this year; however, to focus on my more rigorous classes at school. Additionally, after school I work as an administrative assistant at Sullins Eye Care Center. My favorite hobbies include: dancing (even though I don’t have a lot of time for it, I love it passionately) and spending time with my friends and family. I do enjoy volunteering for my community as well.
I hope to attend UAB (University of Birmingham) for my undergraduate degree. I want to focus on getting into med school and in 5 years I hopefully see myself at an established med school. My dream graduate schools include Duke University or Emory University; however, I won’t be opposed to the idea of completing my medical degree at UAB. I’m hoping to get into OBGYN. I was intrigued by this profession due to my volunteer work at the OBGYN clinic at Huntsville Hospital two years ago. Another idea that interests me is majoring in General Health Administration. Although, I’m still figuring it out I definitely see myself ending up in the med field.
